Some patients will be required to address other health issues including but not limited to: Sleep apnea, diabetes, high cholesterol, diet changes, etc prior to starting testosterone replacement. We want to make sure you are set up for success and sometimes if these other underlying health issues are not taken care of, testosterone replacement might not be necessary.
What to expect
During your first consultation we will conduct a thorough history, physical exam and order blood work. During your second follow up office visit we will go over your lab values and evaluate the different treatment options and what will be the best treatment for you. It is important to realize that if underlying medical conditions are properly treated, that testosterone might not need to be replaced.
If you are determined to be a candidate for testosterone replacement, there a couple of options of how testosterone can be replaced. The most effective is through weekly injections. We will walk you through this process in detail and make sure you are comfortable with this process. If you are uncomfortable giving yourself injections, you can either have our clinic give them to you on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The second option would be to utilize topical creams to replace your testosterone. As with any treatment, this has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that there are no injections and the amount can be adjusted on a daily to weekly basis. The disadvantage is that sometimes the amount absorbed is not the same with each application and it can be messy and time consuming waiting to have the cream fully absorb into your skin. We want to work with you to create the best personalized treatment plan to get you back to feeling like yourself again.
